Bandstand in Buxton Pavilion Gardens

After the success of the joint concert with
Fairfield Band in Buxton Pavilion Gardens last year, we were back again in 2026 for a repeat performance.

And, just like last year, it looked like the weather was not on our side with the forecast predicting a wet afternoon.

However - again just like last year - the rain stayed away and the sun shone
(well, almost shone and it was quite warm) for the crucial couple of hours while we played.

WB Band MD, Sheila, compiled the music for the first half, and Lee, MD of Fairfield Band, chose the programme for the second half. Unfortunately, Sheila was unable to conduct on the day, so Lee stepped up and did the honours for the whole concert.  It's a big ask to conduct music that someone else has selected, but Lee did an amazing job - huge thanks, Lee, for saving the day.
It was a pleasure to play for the appreciative audience, who took a gamble on the weatherman being wrong and turned out in force to listen to the band(s!) Thank you all for coming: playing to an audience makes it special - without you, it's just another band practice.

And thank you too, big time, to our friends who joined us in the bandstand on Sunday. One of the great strengths of the brass band world is supporting each other, and filling the "empty chairs" of those band members who can't make the concert.  Fairfield and Whaley Bridge Bands are very grateful to cornets
Andy and Kim(Marple Band) and Kat (Hawk Green Band,) Neil on Eb Bass (Tintwistle Band) and "freelance" Hayley also on cornet. We couldn't do it without you.
